I said it earlier but this whole month and pretty much the whole month of August I will be back and forth between Devils Lake and Lake Sakakawea.
I arrived to Devils Lake on Friday to fish with friends and the fishing was absolutely fantastic! Lots of fish roaming the weed edges and sunken roads. 8 to 12 foot of water pulling spinners (gold) seemed to activate one heck of a good bite. Caught a nice mix of walleyes between 14 and 20 inches. I was kinda looking for a mix bite for the WWP tournament in Minnewaukan that took place Saturday.
We fished the WWP and ended in 11th place. Upon arriving to our big fish location we fished maybe 15 minutes before a wave and a log took out the belt on my Ulterra. It was tough sledding the rest of the day for us. We didn’t have any trolling rods along so that was out. Somehow in the very heavy winds we managed to get all our fish. Definitely not the ones we wanted, but enough to be respectable.
Again, Devils Lake continues to impress me with the numbers of good quality fish. I think we are spoiled!
I will now be headed back to Sakakawea this week (after I get my trolling motor fixed) thanks to 6 mile corner in Garrison, ND. I’ll get a good fishing report out to you guys after the week!
If your looking to get on the water yet, email me at mikepelusooutdoors@gmail.com to book a trip. Remember, I’m a full time guide. So once school starts many of the guides shut it down until spring. Not me, I’ll fish until she freezes, ice fish guide, and be back in the boat the minute the ice melts!
