Well things have really started to heat up here on Devils Lake! If you take a look at all the weights in the Spirit Lake Casino Tournament you’ll see what I mean. Pretty impressive to say the least.
So what’s working? Maybe a better question or easier question would be what isn’t. I truly believe you can catch fish anyway you like to catch fish right now. For us guiding right now it’s been a mix of bobbers and trolling bouncers. Kind of depends on the day/weather.
The one lure that is doing really well up here this year is the Dakota Disc made by PK lures. I like to pull them the same as I do a slow death rig with a half crawler on a 1-1/2oz bouncer around 1.0 mph. Pulling these along or on top of structure will definitely get you results. When the fish are on the electronics but not willing committing to a moving bait, I’ll switch to bobbers with small jigs and leeches. Some days a mix of both.
All in all the bite is pretty darn good up here right now. I have another week here yet before sliding over to Lake Sakakawea for about a month. After that I’ll be back and forth a bit fishing both bodies of water.
I do have some openings in August on bith Sakakawea and Devils Lake if you want to get on the water. I know this is a little ways out yet, but the end of October through November is go time on the Missouri River near Bismarck. If you are coming out to hunt don’t forget to book a day on the water with me also. Make it a combo fins and feathers trip!
