Finally broke the ice, pun intended, but got the shacks out on Devils Lake this week for both angling and Dark House spearing.
Ice conditions really vary from one end of the lake to the other right now. The ice conditions are still anywhere from open water to 10 inches. The long range forecast is looking pretty good though for making ice next week. I see negative numbers and that usually means some ice will be added. The only problem with a cold snap like that is pressure ridges and cracks.
What are we finding for fish? The walleye bite is actually really good early morning and late evening. Your typical structure of humps, points, roads seem to be where the action is. Simple spoons with a minnow head doing the trick. Even mixed in a pike or two. We will be headed out the next couple days to try and track down a perch bite, and also go look for some decent water to spear northern pike. Again, you really have to be careful out there right now with the ice conditions being different all over the lake. Things are going to get busy here but we have dates available for everything right now. Angling/spearing and lodging out of Minnewaukan. Contact myself or Jason Feldner at Percheyes.com to book your trips today! Early indications look to be excellent for this years ice season!
