Devils Lake Ice Fishing Report-January 8th, 2023

We have been really lucky with the weather lately here in North Dakota. I probably jinxed it for everyone, but honestly it’s been pretty darn good.

We still have a lot of snow and slush we are battling on a daily basis. Kinda just part of the game this season. I know I have recommended tracks, actually it’s not recommended, it’s a must! Another thing I would say is travel in groups to help each other out. One slush pocket and your day could be over. So definitely strength in numbers.

Aside from the difficult conditions, the fishing is still pretty good. Both walleyes and perch when conditions are right. When the suns out go perch fishing and when the clouds move in go walleye fishing. Certain areas with the slush are out of play until we get a hard cold snap.

So overall just go slow and be careful and have good friend near by. Otherwise hire a guide lol I do have some February dates available.

Well, the good news is I actually got out in a boat a few times this week. The bad news was it wasn't that nice out. However, this next week's forecast is looking promising. I was hoping the fish had moved into the river better with the layoff. That did not happen...
