Devils Lake & Sakakawea Fishing Report- July 20th, 2020

With my fishing adventures, I had the opportunity to head east for a few days to fish with friends and a former hockey teammate of mine on Devils Lake. But before I give you a Devils Lake report I start with a Lake Sakakawea one.
For those of you that followed I did fish in a MWC event out of New Town. The fishing was pretty good overall! Lots of really nice fish were caught. We ended the event in 3rd place after leading on Day 1.
Our fishing involved a long run into the mid section of the lake. We didn’t want to share fish with any other tournament guys so we made a long run. We fished Lindy rigs and minnows in shallower water trying to target the bigger bites. I think we had winning fish in our area both days except the second day got a tad bit rough for us on Day 2. Fish are still being caught with slow death and crawlers in that 18 to 25 foot range. I don’t expect that to change anytime soon.
Now off to Devils Lake. Nothing fancy here for us. We concentrated on weed edges and old road beds pulling spinners and crawlers. It did seem the faster we pulled the better the fishing. Again, this lake never seems to amaze me the amount of fish that come out of it.
I’ll be bouncing back and forth here the next month and a half so expect mixed fishing reports. If your looking for a super fun event to fish look at fishing the WWP out of Minnewaukan, ND August 1st! It’s a combination tournament of 2 walleyes, 2 white bass and 2 pike. Absolutely a fun event with a different twist!
