I had to wait to put this Report up tonight because I thought for a bit today, I may have lost all my feeling in my hands and feet. The good news is after a hot shower, and sitting in front of the fireplace watching the baseball game, my feeling has come back and I’m able to type on my phone lol. My guide trip started off a little later this morning. Even with the late start, the temp never got above 32 with wind chills around 20 most of the day, we saw snow flurries off and on keeping us on our toes to add to the excitement. I relocated my trip to the Fox Island area here in Bismarck. With my clients running late this morning, and the heavy north/northwest winds, I figured we could save on drive time and maybe find a few areas where we could tuck out of the wind. For those of you who haven’t had a boat in the water for sometime here locally, make sure you pay attention! Lots of shifting and changes have taken place. Anyway, I figured I would start off in a high percentage area down by the Heart River. Lindy jigs and minnows were the lure of choice and it didn’t take us long to boat our first two fish. We also missed a couple fish right off the bat. One thing we did right away was tie on heavier jigs. 3/8 oz whites and greens worked well and gave us better feel and control. We did however miss a few fish and lost a few fish with us having to wear gloves. My electronics played a huge role in catching our fish today. We bounced around quite a bit getting all the way south to the Apple Creek. The walleyes were showing up on the screen in the deeper holes and downscan helped me identify the ones we were looking for. If I had to pick a “best depth”  it would have been 12 to 16 foot of water. We never caught a lot of fish in any one particular spot. I marked a lot of fish and could also see pods of bait in many of the areas we spent time in. It seemed most areas had fish in them, and I would anticipate it getting pretty darn good here with the warmer weather! I know my hands and feet will appreciate this!
