Well, had a couple guys back up at Sakakawea checking on ice for the spear shacks. Happy to say we have one spear shack set up and I will be bringing another one out this weekend. So if your interested in booking a day or two of Dark House Spearing we will be ready for you starting Monday! I’ll have the contact info at the bottom of this report.
They found a good 4 inches in a bay on the east end that I checked earlier this week, so it is encouraging for sure. A couple more cold nights and we should have a decent base back in the bays on Sakakawea. I’m going to spread the spear shacks out right away until we find good movement of Pike. The one thing I will say about spearing on Sakakawea is you have a shot at a 40 plus incher at any moment. Just like sitting in a deer stand, you have to be there in order to get one. Super excited that we are finally up and running.
I decided to go the other direction and check Ice this morning. I stopped in a couple areas down on Lake Oahe. Found good ice east on Beaver Bay. 6 inches seemed average in that area. The main portion had roughly 3 to 4 inches in spots. Moved further south and found 2 to 3 inches around the State Line. So if you are planning on heading down that way this weekend please use caution. I’d recommend walking with picks and a spud bar.
I did not venture back to Cattail so if any of you readers have been in that area please message me and I will update and or leave a comment here and people can read it. Like I always say safety does not take the day off while ice fishing. Hopefully the same holds true down there, a few cold nights and we can get a good base built up.
So the spearing trips will begin next week! I will have another shack up sometime this weekend. I will send reports and pictures and updates as I go. If you want to give spearing a try please text me at 7014718649 or email me at mikepelusooutdoors@gmail.com and I can get you all set up! Let me do the work so you can just sit and enjoy!
