We are getting closer to full time winter guide mode! My stuff really fires up for me December 9th. After that there is no turning back!
With this recent little spurt of warm weather it really slowed me down wanting to venture out on ice. In fact, it got me to consider getting the boat again. With the holiday season I decided to just relax and enjoyed time with family and friends instead.
Guys are fishing and some are doing extremely well in areas. The Devils Lake however is still a little quiet with the dirty water under the ice. We will need things to freeze up solid and settle down to see the bite really take off. Some of the the guys fishing the smaller ponds are doing way better at the moment.
Ice is ranging from open water to 8 inches in select areas of the state. It does look like we are going to see some cold weather coming in here this week and hopefully this will solidly freeze things up and we can get into a routine.
The guys I’ve been talking to who are catching fish are having to go old school. Plain hook on a dead rod like a JT snare is catching more fish. Let the fish swim up on it and find it. Also, the rattler baits are working.
Things are really going to get busy here for me in the coming weeks and the fishing reports will get more detailed also.
