I am switching gears for a bit to pre fish for my final Walleye Tournament of the season. I actually didn’t fish very many tournaments this year. So pre fishing compared to guiding has been a nice change of pace, but at the same time I really like my guiding. Anyway, we are poking around the southern stretches of Lake Oahe pre fishing for the Prairie Knights Casino Cup event. On a side note this is also the body of water next springs Aim National Walleye Tournament will be held on this exact body of water. For the guys who have never been here it’s goung to be an eye opener! Moving water, falling or rising water, trees, bridges, river, river channels, sandbars, moving fish are all head scratchers even for this old grandpa guide as Ernie Barnhard life to refer as lol. Anyway, I have been down on this body of water quite a bit over the last month or so and not much has changed. The fish are still scattered about Witt some fish being caught shallow, some deep, some in trees and some in the middle of nowhere. Crank baits are still ruling the show but jigs and rigs are also players. For the guys coming here next spring for practice bring lots of tackle! This system is a lure eating machine. We have been finding done nice fish though! Most of these fish are eating really well with lots of forage being spit up in the livewell and also on the floor of the boat. A huge mix in forage also with white bass, crappies and smelt all being found in these fish. We still have a couple days to try and put together a pattern on a good consistent bite. Unfortunately the weather is a little rough with cold temperatures and rain, but what the heck it’s fishing! I’m still taking bookings for Guide Trips all the way until October 31st! Call or text me at(701) 471-8649 or email me on the site!
