Lake Oahe/Missouri River-September 11th, 2018

I have had a great week so far! I was able to take a couple sportswriters out. One from Wisconsin and one from Missouri. We headed out to what I call the headwaters of Lake Oahe or the tailwaters of the Missouri River. This trip was so much of a reminder of why I love guiding. The first thing that came to mind was these two guys have never seen this body of water or even the state of North Dakota for they matter. Everything they had a chance to see was new and exciting and it reminded me of why I love this place I call home. We hit the water around 8:00 am. I knew this trip was a short one since they told me they needed to be back at the hotel by 11:30. Not exactly a lot of time to put these guys on quality fish on a system that is a later in the fall producer. I told them we should find some fish but it will most likely be what I call a blue collar bite. I decided on a very high percentage community type spot for our starting point. I went with an old faithful technique of a bottom bouncer and slow death and a half crawler. These gentlemen were extremely interested in finding out the bottom bouncer was indeed invented in a garage in Bismarck, ND by the late Bob Meter. Bob owned and operated Meter Tackle out of Bismarck/Mandan for many years! Anyway, we set down on our spot and it wasn’t long before we had about ‘a 17 inch walleye in the boat. After a few passes out on the main river channel edge we had 3 cookie cutters and missed a couple. We relocated just to another channel area and went about it the same way. We were able to boat another 5 fish before having to head back in. All in all I was very please with the results and these guys loved the boat rides, loved the scenery and most importantly they caught fish. I was reminded by them that this was excellent fishing by their home state standards and again I realized how very lucky we are to be able to call ND home and to have 4 fisheries like we do! Do again if your looking for memories and an excellent time on the water please call or text me at(701) 471-8649 or email me here. Mike Peluso

PS: booking discounted rates on the Missouri/oahe until October 31st! Lake Sakakawea is also going to be rocking up until ice up and we can book their also! #mikepelusooutdoors
