Some days on Lake Sakakawea you just cannot explain and today was no exception with it bring one of those days. Probably in the top five days I’ve had on the Big Lake this season. We didn’t do anything special we moved around a lot concentrated on points and it just so happenef we caught a lot of big fish today. My optimism was very low heading out this morning with zero wind I figured the bite was going to be tough, but boy was I proven wrong. That’s the one nice thing about this massive body of water, you never know what she’s going to give you until you get out there and give her. Our presentation was nothing special slow death bottom bouncers jigs where the ticket. The biggest thing for us today was when we marked a fish we continued to go over the top of it basically forcing it to feed. I wasn’t sure if we could get a lot of those marks to buy in today but it seemed like if we continued to go across them sooner or later one would open their mouth. The one thing I will say is Depth played a huge factor in where we caught fish today. Most of our fish were caught between 25 and 35 foot of water. When you have a day like today you learn a valuable lesson to stick it out, fish hard and enjoy days like today because before you know it the snowflakes will be fallen and the ice will be here and our minds will be left to dream about the open water once again. I wouldn’t anticipate Lake Sakakawea getting better and better as we press closer to fall but after days like today it’s hard to believe it can get any better.
