Lake Sakakawea Fishing Report-August 23, 2018

Well fellow anglers, here is this weeks tip of week…never fish against someone named lucky!  Anyway, here’s what we have uncovered for this week pre-fishing for the Aim State championship. One thing is for sure, the fish are scattered and there is no real huge pattern as far as us catching big fish consistently. But and this is with a capital letter, BUT someone always finds the big fish. With that said, Fishing remains pretty darn good. We are seeing fish caught pretty much everywhere, super shallow water we see, fish coming out of really deep water and we have seen fish come out of everything in between. I will say this, even when you can’t uncover a big fish pattern this body of water still remains one of the best lakes in the country. Talking to Out of State anglers this week while on the Lake, they continue to tell me how amazing the fishing is! We think it is slower, simply because we are spoiled beyond belief. The nice part about Lake Sakakawea st the moment is you honestly can fish these fish any way your little heart desires and you will catch fish. Bait of choice remains crawlers on slow death hooks did Lindy Rigs dragged behind bottom bouncers. This system seems to be the most consistent for putting numbers of fish in your boat. We are also seeing good numbers on cranks and jigging raps. Really depends on the day. Another crazy thing we are experiencing is the fire haze in the sky is effecting these fished movements throughout the course of the day. Flat calm and hazy don’t be afraid to slide pretty shallow to find active feeders. I also dropped the camera down a few times this week and yes some of those really good marks you are seeing are walleyes, but many of those marks are also smallies. Kind of crazy! If your looking to get out on the water let me know! I have openings! 701-471-8649 or messenger me and or email me! Mike Peluso
