Lake Sakakawea Fishing Report- August 27th 2018

I’m finally back on high ground here after pre fishing and fishing the Aim State Championship out of Indian Hills Resort. First and foremost I want to thank Indian Hills and Kelly for the amazing accommodations. It’s a great place to stay and Jason Feldner and I are excited about starting up Mjsguides.com which is based out of Indian Hills. So if your looking to book a group package go to mjguides.com and we can get you set up with lodging and a Great Lake Sakakawea experience. So here’s the fishing report for the end of the week. Needless to say the fishing is unreal right now! We had over 55 pounds in two days and didn’t make the top 5. Actually took 8th. Crazy to think that these types of weights came in especially during the dog days of summer. We found a really good jig rap bite up shallow. It was a big fish program and big fish we caught. No surprise here but the best color jig raps, shiver minnows, puppet minnows were any variation of white. We all know the walleyes are chasing smelt but they were also keying in on white bass. Kind of interesting to see. We also caught some really nice fish on the old school Lindy rig with a minnow during the event. I wasn’t able to track down any creek chubs before the tournament unfortunately but I would have to believe those would have done great! Slow death rigs in shallower water, and also out deep was still really good, and we had found some awesome fish, maybe not tournament fish, but great guide fish with big fish mixed in. We had to make a choice to fish community seas because of the average size of fish, plus I felt I had found a concentration of fish that other anglers were not targeting. Our plan seemed to be in check right away day one, but soon after we had a few fish the gig was up. Again, to see the quality of fish that were caught on this amazing body of water was literally head shaking. I’m still taking bookings up on Sakakawea but I’m also going to turn my attention back to the Missouri River/Oahe with the Casino Tournament right around the corner.
