Lake Sakakawea Fishing Report-July 26th, 2021

Fishing on Lake Sakakawea from a guides perspective is absolutely unreal! From a tournament anglers point of view maybe not so much.

What do I mean about when I say this? Well, guide fish 14″ to 18″ are extremely abundant and fairly easy to catch right now. We have however mixed in some true giants though. So it tells me the lake is in great shape for now.

What to expect right now on Sakakawea as far as the fishing is concerned. You will still find the bulk of the fish in that 18′ to 25′ of water. Wind is your friend for sure snd make sure you pay attention to it. Slow death rigs and propeller rigs are catching a lot of fish right now pulled a tad faster than before. 1.0 to 1.4 mph seems to trigger the aggressive fish.

I don’t forecast the fishing to slow down anytime soon. The only thing that scares me at the moment is they are drawing the lake down during a drought? I’m hoping the Corps of Engineers are smarter than the rest of us. They must know we are going to receive record amounts of snow in the mountains this winter. Rumor has it they want to draw it down another 7 feet before freeze up.

Again, summer is definitely on the back 9 now. It’s definitely not to early to think ice fishing band to book your ice fishing with me on Devils Lake. Groups of bay size can be accommodated. Get ahold of me!
