I have a feeling this is going to be a long winter. Not because the fishing sucks, but because of the extreme weather we seem to be getting on the daily. The snow is piling up fast around North Dakota and I think it’s gonna continue to do so. If anyone out there that isn’t going to be able to fish this winter and owns a sno bear get ahold of me. I’ll rent it from you lol
Anyway, with that being said tracks are an absolute must already, if you don’t have them don’t bother. Along with the snow on the ice we are seeing some slush pockets here and there as well. Hard shacks are tough to use right now even with skis. I’m hoping some warmer weather will settle the snow down some, and it becomes hard enough and we can actually drive on top of it.
If you can get to where you want to go, the fish are around. I think overall the quality of both the perch and walleyes on Devils Lake, especially this winter, are bigger and healthier than they have been in recent years. The late snow that put an additional 3 foot of water back into Devils Lake, made a world of difference. Lots of great spawning habitat was created again, and it looks like the fish took advantage of it.
Nothing out of the ordinary as far as the bite goes. Decent basin bite for perch and the normal structure bite for the walleyes. Of course walleyes morning and night, and the perch during the daylight. Again, biggest thing is being able to get to them.
I have a few random dates here and there available. Text or email me if you are interested in going!
