So I’ve been up on Devils Lake now for over a week. Lots of different weather, a couple more bug hatches, and a really strong walleye bite.
I get asked to compare or I get asked what lake is better? Totally not a fair question to ask. I just tell folks they are both world class walleye lakes in their own unique ways. For me I love the change of pace and the challenge of staying on top of both bodies of water. I feel it makes be a better angler and guide. Plus, I never get sick of one place.
So what’s working this week? For me it’s been a rotation of spinner colors. I’ll keep changing until you find the color that seems to trigger the fish. I’m running them on old shoreline structure, sunken roads and islands, and along the weed edges in 7 to 12 foot of water still producing lots of bites.
I mentioned on my Facebook pages I’m lacking dates to fish both of these bodies of water yet this season. I have a few but not many. I’ve also begun booking late Fall River trips on the Missouri River and that naughty word Ice Fishing up here on Devils Lake. So if you are thinking of a trip, please get ahold of me!
