Holy moly we got snow, and it’s still falling as I write this report! I said it in a few interviews this week, for us this is a short term loss for hopefully a long term gain with the moisture.
I would expect our river system to be a tad messed up for about 2 weeks after all said and done. It all depends on how things melt, and how much frost has lifted in the ground. The northern stretches in the state like the Devils Lake region, and Sakakawea area should see a lot of this snow melt directly into the lake. Stuff closer to Bismarck may drain into the ground a little more. We will see.
My prediction for the river is the water will get cold and dirty. This will slow fishing way down. Of course we should see some increased flows with the Knife, Square Butte, Burnt Creek, Heart, Little Heart, Apple Creek, Cannonball and Beaver all contributing water to the Missouri River System. In my mind, this is all good news!
On the backside of this I predict a really good push of fish! If history repeats itself, this normally creates a good fish movement northward. Not to mention all the fish that are not being caught and given a chance to settle in. It’s been an incredible spring as far as fishing goes for us here on the guide team. I hate the interruption, but again it’s a short term loss for a longer term gain!
