Mid Week Fishing Report-May 18th, 2022

Frustrating! Just when things were setting back up and the fishing was getting good. The Knife River to the north decided it needed to remind us why this system is nicknamed the Big Muddy, and muddy is what it is.

Makes my job extremely difficult. Clients come to Bismarck, North Dakota full of excitement and expectations of catching fish and experiencing a good day on the water. When Mother Nature throws a muddy curveball at you it’s tough to keep the spirits high.

I feel I’m open and honest with folks. Certainly I understand this is my occupation, and if I don’t fish I don’t get paid. I will not however guide people just ti take their hard earned money and run. So if you do have a trip scheduled with me here in the next week or so, please touch base with me. We can certainly try and relocate the trip or possibly reschedule if time permits.

So what was happening before the river came up a foot and threw coffee creamer at us? It was shaping up to be epic! 50 fish days with a chance at a big one was on tap. Up until a day ago, we had 7 fish this past week over 27 inches with the biggest being a 31 inch beast! Absolutely incredible!

I’ll keep everyone posted here. Hopefully the Big Muddy cleans up and the fishing rebounds, otherwise the Reel n Rec Derby coming up is gonna be rough on folks. Stay tuned!
