Mid Week Fishing Report-Sept. 7th, 2022

With the much anticipated Casino Cup Championship approaching up here in Devils Lake, it’s gonna be an interesting weigh in to say the least. I think we are going to see some very heavy weights come in weather prohibiting.

Lots of transition happening on Devils Lake right now, and I’m guessing this is the story for most of our waters here in North Dakota. It’s just that time of year! Water temps fall at night warm during the day. Weed growth begins to die off, and lots of food becomes available.

I will say this…Devils Lakes future is super bright! Record hatches of pretty much everything that swims took place this spring with the rising water. Lots of fresh new trees and vegetation have made Devils Lake into a fish nursery and I’m super excited about the next 5 years up here for all species. Especially the Perch!

Even with record breaking spawn, the fishing is tremendous right now. These walleyes have plenty of food to eat, but just like in typical DL fashion, these fish like to feed and feed they are! Look for weed edges, rocks, trees etc. where young of the year fry are trying to hide and match the hatch so to speak to catch them. Cranks, cranks and more cranks are working best. However, we are catching fish on jigs, spinners, and bobbers still.

Few dates remaining for open water especially on the river near Bismarck later fall. If you are looking to book an ice fishing trip with me get ahold of me so we can get you all lined up before all available dates are taken.

I've seen a lot of things over my 40 plus years fishing the Missouri River. Yesterdays (May 6th) Big Muddy Tournament was one for both the record books and the memory bank. This spring has been a tough one. The fish were slow to arrive. Coupled with lots of them...
