Mid Week Sakakawea Fishing Report- August 17th, 2022

Mid week fishing report is all Sakakawea! The place just continues to be a top walleye producing body of water. To be honest with you it kinda scares me how good it has been. I hope the Game and Fish take a good hard look at it this off season to determine if more stocking is going to be in need to keep up with how many fish have come out of the lake this season.

Without question, this season has been one for the record books up here Sakakawea. This spring while meeting with a local warden, I discussed how I personally would love to see ND drop the daily limit to 4 fish a day per person, but give two more fish on the possession. So instead of a 2 day possession you could have a 3 day of 12 fish. 4 fish per day per person is plenty. Over a course of a year that one fish per day would be huge!

Again, I cannot stress this enough. If you are fishing the lower end of Lake Sakakawea the fish are deep. Please keep what you catch and move off the deep fish. I watched a boat today jig rapping 30 plus foot of water catching and releasing. Those fish are all dead unfortunately. So please help the resource and catch what you want or need and either call it a day or move up shallow and chase bass. If you are up and want to catch numbers of walleyes right now go up into the river section of the lake. Lots of those fish are in 10 to 16 foot of water up there.

Jig raps, crank baits, slow death are all producing up here right now. No secret the fish are deep on points and humps. Move around until you mark them. I have a couple openings next week if someone is looking and I’m booking late Fall River trips, especially those who are coming into the state to hunt. Also booking Devils Lake ice fishing trips as well.
