Missouri River Fishing Report – August 2018

With the water falling here locally near Bismarck, ND we have to look north and way south right now on the this massive body of water of Lake Oahe/Missouri River but recently they shut down the flows out of the tailrace and opened up the spillway gates to do some testing of some of the concrete they fixed back after the 2011 flood. So with that just like back in 2011 we have headed up the spillway to experience a situation that doesn’t take place very often and that is to take part in catching every fish in the river lol no pun intended but when these waters flow it draws all species in to feed and makes it just a super fun place to fish! Simple tactics of jigs and plastic or if your with kids Lindy rigs work well with crawlers. Be careful not to get too close to the falling water because it does get a little tough and tough up in there but well worth the experience! If you haven’t had a chance to do this and or if you don’t own a boat give me a call 701-471-8649 or email me here on the website and I’ll take you in there while flows last. As soon as they shut it off the fish are going to pull out of the top end and will get harder to catch. Also look for fishing on the river near Bismarck to start showing signs of life in September. Lake Oahe south to the state line is kicking out fish right now mostly along the river channel edges but will continue to get better and better as we move closer to fall. Don’t forget about the 2018 Casino cup that takes place September 22nd out of Prarie Knights casino. I would expect it to be a pretty solid bite all throughout the system!

I've personally had a goofy week up here on Devils Lake. With the storm events around us it definitely caused some interruptions. One of the interruptions was clients couldn't travel in to fish. So I definitely took a hit business wise with the weather. It's all part...
