Missouri River Fishing Report-October 27th, 2018

I promised a fishing report after the big fish we caught yesterday. The weather held off long enough before the hurricane winds of North Dakota decided to show up. The sun popped out after the morning drizzle and we had a short window to catch fish.

The story on the river near Bismarck/Mandan remains the same. The fish are around, doesn’t seem to be a huge number of them quite yet, but it’s getting better according to my Lowrance Electronics. If your seeing fish in a spot its my suggestion to work them hard. The bite in streaks and if you work your spot long enough you can have a decent bag of fish. We are also seeing a huge number of Northern Pike in the system also. You can watch me clean a Pike on my YouTube Channel https://youtu.be/IoIFBVRy0i don’t forget to subscribe and like and share!

I’m still seeing lots of forage/baitfish in the river. I wish I knew for sure what they are but we have also seen or I should say caught some walleyes that are for sure from this years spawn! Always encouraging when you see those little guys around. With the high water we had, I’m guessing pretty much everything hatched this spring and or summer.

The tactic for us remains the same with 1/4 oz Lindy Jigs on a JT Custom rod up in the river with mono, since we are fishing a lot shallower up here. 8 to 15 foot of water right off the main current seem has been best! Don’t be afraid to pull crankbaits up stream in these spots. You can pick off a fish or two that otherwise won’t touch anything else.

Not sure what the weather has in store for us but I’m hoping we can get done time in out on the river during November. The fish seem to be starting to move north and its nice to be able to fish so close to home!
