Meet Your Fishing Guide

Mike Peluso

ABOUT MIKE PELUSO Mike Peluso is an infamous North Dakota fishing guide that’s well known throughout the state. Mike prides himself on being consistent, as well as versatile on any body of water he fishes. Mike guides year-round, so you can find him on the water or on the ice. The weather decided to give us just a small window of opportunity today but we took it to check in on the fall migration. Is the push in full force yet? I wouldn’t say it’s in full force quite yet but it’s certainly started! Some nice healthy looking Walleye are showing up and the only thing that has a fisherman frustrated is the crappy weather. We do however look to have a break in the bad weather and a warm up starting towards the end of next week. Rocktober is always the perfect time to search for these rock lizards. I suppose we could nickname the river eyes sand lizards. One of the things after fishing this body of water for over 40 years you realize is it can be very predictable. I’m kinda surprised though that the migration wasn’t a bit earlier this year with the higher water? Usually that pushes fish up, but what might happen, is we may see better numbers later this fall. If I was to turn back time and look back at all the falls I have fished out here, we are still on the front edge of the fish push. Expect it to get really good more towards the end of October into November with opening of deer being the best weather permitting of course. Lindy jigs and minnows right off the main channel proved to be the best tactic today. You will also find while jigging right now less is more. Holding it still just a few inches off the bottom seems to drive these fall walleyes crazy. Again we also found the Northern Pike fairly abundant. I think with all the high water we had this summer and now it’s dropping some it’s pushing these pike out of the back water into the main portion of the river. Still taking bookings if the weather is nice until October 31st 701-471-8649 or email me. I also know you get sick of me holding fish so I figured since all the fish we caught today were good eaters I would show the aftermath of my favorite Mediterranean Walleye!!!

Being back on Sakakawea has been fun! Honestly for me, I love being able to guide on both of North Dakota's big bodies of water this time of year. It keeps you on your toes and I feel I'm a better guide because of it! No time to get complacent. The fish are moving...

Mid Week Fishing Report- August 3rd, 2022

Back on Sakakawea this week certainly isn't a let down. This lake has been on fire since the very beginning this year and hasn't let up a bit. The fish are moving around some. You can still find some really nice fish up shallow. Just need to be a tad more patient with...

It's been good! Bug hatches, tons of new food like baby perch and white bass, lots of fresh water shrimp, yet the walleyes on Devils Lake just continue to bite! What's working? Well, it's Devils Lake. Seems like whatever you like to use will work! What's working best?...

Mid Week Devils Lake Fishing Report-July 27th, 2022

So I've been up on Devils Lake now for over a week. Lots of different weather, a couple more bug hatches, and a really strong walleye bite. I get asked to compare or I get asked what lake is better? Totally not a fair question to ask. I just tell folks they are both...

Devils Lake Fishing Report-July 24th, 2022

I reluctantly left Lake Sakakawea earlier this week to travel east to Devils Lake. All the Rage (no pun intended) lol has been on how good the fishing has been on both bodies of water. I'm here to tell you Devils Lake is holding its own. Both bodies of water have been...

Mid Week Lake Sakakawea Fishing Report-July 20th, 2022

If Lake Sakakawea was a movie, I think we could call it Groundhogs Day. Nothing has changed really with the mood of the fish. They are still eating! They are a bit more scattered as far as depth is concerned. Some days it just doesn't matter, but the bulk of the...

I too am very frustrated with the weather. I am retired and haven’t had any good fall fishing yet. I am up at Devils lake now in a snowstorm hoping maybe to get out tomorrow. I have to winterize my camper on Friday so I won’t get much fishing in,it’s always very windy up here. How about the recipe for that Mediterranean fish?
