Missouri River Fishing Report-October 7th, 2018

The weather decided to give us just a small window of opportunity today but we took it to check in on the fall migration. Is the push in full force yet? I wouldn’t say it’s in full force quite yet but it’s certainly started! Some nice healthy looking Walleye are showing up and the only thing that has a fisherman frustrated is the crappy weather. We do however look to have a break in the bad weather and a warm up starting towards the end of next week. Rocktober is always the perfect time to search for these rock lizards. I suppose we could nickname the river eyes sand lizards. One of the things after fishing this body of water for over 40 years you realize is it can be very predictable. I’m kinda surprised though that the migration wasn’t a bit earlier this year with the higher water? Usually that pushes fish up, but what might happen, is we may see better numbers later this fall. If I was to turn back time and look back at all the falls I have fished out here, we are still on the front edge of the fish push. Expect it to get really good more towards the end of October into November with opening of deer being the best weather permitting of course. Lindy jigs and minnows right off the main channel proved to be the best tactic today. You will also find while jigging right now less is more. Holding it still just a few inches off the bottom seems to drive these fall walleyes crazy. Again we also found the Northern Pike fairly abundant. I think with all the high water we had this summer and now it’s dropping some it’s pushing these pike out of the back water into the main portion of the river. Still taking bookings if the weather is nice until October 31st 701-471-8649 or email me. I also know you get sick of me holding fish so I figured since all the fish we caught today were good eaters I would show the aftermath of my favorite Mediterranean Walleye!!!
