Missouri River/Lake Oahe Fishing Report-September 23rd, 2018

As I reflect back this last month on Lake Oahe I can honestly say the fishing, in general, wasn’t all that bad. Each time on the water was different and over the course of the last 30 days or so we caught some really nice walleyes. We caught fish a bunch of different ways. Leadcore with reef runners or flicker minnows seemed to rule. We did, however, catch some decent fish back in the bays and under the bridges. We choose to start under a less pressured bridge rather than fish under the Beaver Bay bridge this year. Usually I can be found under that bridge to start this tournament every year. I choose to not go there in hopes of that one lucky bite. Anyway the water under the porcupine bridge really dirtied up and the fish didn’t want to corporate. We made a move to a small rocky point to get some fish in the box. We got our 6 weigh fish and went to an area along the old river channel and put the lead out.  Again we caught fish but for whatever reason, maybe the rising water conditions and current plus the falling water temps put the fish in an off mood? Again, one lucky bite under a bridge, we would have cashed a check. The tough part was the quality of fish we were catching on this river channel pull would have easily won the tournament. We could still see the fish on the electronics but could not get them to fire. I guess that’s fishing and what keeps us coming back for more!  Our team of Ryan Subart, Mike Klug and myself weighed 9.53 pounds and took I believe 22nd place. Winners had 17 points so in my mind the bite was off for pretty much everyone. Next year’s Aim National Championship should be interesting! I’m still booking trips! I’m switching gears this week back to Sakakawea for 3 trips! I’ll be reporting back! Call or text me at 701-471-8649 or email me off the websire. Taking bookings until October 31st.
