After spending the night on Lake Audubon I decided to venture around a little in search of walleyes. I have been on the Perch mission the last few times so my time out this weekend would be in search of Walleye. I headed to an old favorite of mine the New Johns chain of lakes.
I’m not really sure why I decided to go there? I guess since I hadn’t fished it for quite sometime, I figured it would be fun and probably quiet with the holiday season. I had a couple other lakes on my radar….Woodhouse and Brekken were the two lakes I contemplated on. I am headed to these lakes next! Again, I will report back on them after.
New Johns was New Johns. I caught a couple of really nice fish right at dark on the Lindy Glow Spoon. I saw a ton of nice fish on the camera early, but the fish were extremely skittish for some reason? Full moon maybe? Lots of small perch cruised by the camera and the walleyes I saw were super nice.
I concentrated my efforts in the 15 to 25 foot range today. The ice was great! 12 to 14 inches all over. If I were to stay the night again, I would have moved the shack up even shallower, but I was comfy and New Johns is a super clear lake with roaming fish and you will find low light to be the best! I was able to connect with a couple fish over night.
I left New Johns in the morning to meet up with a buddy to scope out some no name lakes in the area. After punching holes in a few lakes, we struck gold! Walleyes! How they are in this Pothole I’ll never know? We even caught a perch in the process! I’m super excited now to continue to scope this region and see what other surprises may be lurking below the ice! Simply an amazing thing to me to see fish show up on the Lowrance in waters that don’t even appear on the map! Craziness!
I will be venturing out some more here in the week ahead. I’ll be sure to give you a Report after! Until the next report I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I hope you have a wonderful New Year!
