Hip hip hooray we finally got a nice day! I was beginning to feel the open water season had come to a close, but like they say about the weather in North Dakota, wait 5 minutes. I’m not sure how many more we will get, but we will take them when we can get them! Today on the Missouri River was one for the memory bank. Anytime you put an 8 pound plus walleye, a 35 inch pike, an 18 inch smallie and a bonus 5 pound trout along with some really nice fat eating size walleyes it’s a day to remember! I can’t help but be super excited for this upcoming spring! I hope folks are able to come out and take advantage of the great spring fishing with me! Nothing better than early Missouri River Walleye pitching jigs up on the sandbars. So today the fish really were showing up on my Lowrance electronics and boy is it fun when you see one and it punches my Lindy jig!   Probably one of the most addictive things I know in fishing. The fish have really found their way up river. Definitely a lot more numbers and willing eaters. I’m not sure again how many more chances we will have to get out after these fat and sassy fish, but my fingers are crossed for at least a few more trips yet before I completely retire the boat for a bit and rip out my JT Custom ice rods. Fish were not bashful of a little shallower water today. The water temps after our cold spell were around the 40 degree mark and we found fish in as shallow as 5 foot of water but the majority of them were in the 10 to 15 foot range. The bites came in waves and some rocked it pretty hard while others not so much. It really helped that we didn’t have a lot of wind today and I was able to use a 1/4 oz lime green color Lindy jig with the biggest minnows I could find in the bucket. If you haven’t put your boat away, watch the weather and try and get out again! #mikepelusooutdoors
