Things are still not progressing on the river yet like I had hoped. There are a few (very few) select spots that if you can get in them first thing in the morning or right before dark you’ll catch some fish. Unfortunately, these fish are fish that summer here and are slowly getting cleaned out.
With that said, we need a migration push of walleyes to come up from Oahe. I think the push is behind schedule this year for two reasons. First being the water is extremely low. Second, the water is relatively warm for this time of year.
What can you expect if you venture out on the river near Bismarck right now? Most boat ramps are marginal. A few of the ramps now have docks pulled already and this makes things difficult also.
As far as the fishing goes? Seems like when you pull into the traditional spots you can catch on or two walleyes. Lots of other fish around so you will battle with those also.
Sounds like there are a few fish showing up way south down near South Dakota. It’s my hope these fish are making their way. They do have to swim through some serious sand deltas, but I’m hoping the force is strong.
With that said I’ll continue to probe and search for upcoming guide trips. If you are looking to get out please get ahold of me and we can get out and giver!
