Missouri River (Oahe) Fishing Report-Sept 3rd, 2019

With the weather kinda of goofy and the winds continuing to blow, I have remained south on Oahe so far this week. I will however be on both Oahe and Lake Sakakawea this week.
The same story holds true as last report. When you find the fish they are nice and healthy. There is still a ton of water in Oahe right now so that can make things a little more interesting but the fish are here already. Just a little more scattered around is all. Deeper water off the main river channel is holding true. We ran slow death and crawlers and I also decided to bring some minnows along. The minnows didn’t catch a ton of fish, but they certainly produced the bigger fish. I was running the minnows on a bottom bouncer and plain hook. The slow death I mixed in a silver propeller blade and that seemed to get the fishes attention also.
I’m going to remain extremely optimistic about the fall bite here locally this fall. It seems a lot of fish are still close to town, so once the fishes instinct to migrate kicks in, they shouldn’t have much to slow them down. Lots of forage up here at the moment for the fish to eat and cooler water temps with the higher flows usually mean great fall fishing!
Again, things are looking up especially for the Missouri River System here locally. Also hearing reports that Sakakawea is starting to come around again. I anticipate the big lake to continue to get better and better.
