Devils Lake Ice Fishing Report-March 6th, 2022

Things have really turned around up here on Devils Lake the last week or so! The fish are definitely a lot more eager to feed and that makes my job as a guide a heck of a lot more enjoyable.

The weather still hasn’t been the greatest, but even that seems to be coming around on days allowing us to hole hop and really cover some ground/ ice. The days we are able to do this, our results show for it.

Both the walleyes and the perch are showing themselves shallower and shallower each day, and we all k ow what shallow water fish are doing…they eat! I do know of some guys that are on the perch out in the basin, but for me these shallow water feeders are way more enjoyable.

Presentation hasn’t changed much for us. Tungsten’s loaded up with spikes or wax worms for the perch, and spoons (on the smaller side) with minnow heads seem to be taking the bulk of the walleyes. Old shoreline structure has been best for the walleyes in the 3 to 15 foot range. The bite will last longer on the overcast days.

Another fun thing happening is the pike are beginning to show up in the shallows. Definitely time to start thinking tip ups with smelt and hot dogs for some late ice fast and furious flag chasing.

Remember I’m taking bookings for the Missouri River near Bismarck this spring. I’m also booking trips for both Devils Lake and Lake Sakakawea! Get ahold of me asap and no group is too big!
