I took last Sunday off from the reports. Probably the first Sunday I haven’t posted in like 10 years. I’m happy to report I finally popped a couple holes this winter!
Unlike my previous winters, this one is definitely different for me. Going back to work in hockey has been a nice change of pace for me. I am missing the daily grind of ice guiding…or I should say parts of it.
I definitely don’t miss the whiteout days where you are lucky to see the shacks your clients are sitting in. Those days I don’t miss, but I miss the hunt and chasing down a bite.
So for me heading out on my own for my own enjoyment my end goal is a lot different. I will keep the lake I fished under the radar since a good buddy of mine turned me on to it. I think if I disclosed the name of it he would never give me a tip like this again.
Nothing crazy but a bite of walleyes and perch worth going back. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to fish a small prairie lake like this. Crazy part is there was no one else around.
I do plan on heading down to Oahe and Sakakawea here this week and I will most definitely report on those for you. The one thing I can say about the body of water I fished is it’s on the Game and Fish website and the stocking reports for the lake correlate the catches.
Sounds like Devils Lake is coming around some also. I might even get up that way here soon to see how that goes!
With me not guiding this winter it is recharging my excitement to get back to the open water guiding next spring! I’m booking trips for Sakakawea and the Missouri River already, so if you are thinking about fishing with me this coming season get ahold of me!
