The weather has changed for the better and so has my attitude and the fishes!
I still won’t say the bite is rockstar, but it’s definitely improved with the recent warm up. My only problem now is I’m starting to get open water spring fever!
I have about a dozen days left on the ice this winter yet. The ice overall is holding up well, but the shorelines could create some issues as we go. So we will have to watch for access points closely.
The walleyes on days seem to be coming around. For me the perfect scenario is a multi fish spot. However that hasn’t been very consistent. So once the walleye bite is over in the mornings it leaves us an entire lake to start throwing darts at it for the perch.
If you land on area with perch, you have to drill a ton of holes to try and stay on top of them. They don’t like to just hang around. They definitely seem to come and go making it hard to decide whether to stay or leave.
Spoons with minnows best for walleyes on structure. Perch are liking small tungsten with spikes or tiny spoons.
As the winter continues to get closer the end, I’m already booking open water spring guide trips on the river near Bismarck. If you haven’t gotten ahold of me yet for a spring trip, don’t hesitate to do so!
