Lake Sakakawea Fishing Report-July 12th, 2026

Just like the old soap opera As the world turns.  I’ll call this fishing report as the prop spins.

Fishing remains excellent up here on Lake Sakakawea.  Bordering on catching not fishing at times.

Lots of forage in the lake keeping these fish fat and sassy!  For me I try to get out of the areas where I’m seeing tons of baitfish.  I use the terminology with my clients all the time.  The walleyes are eating prime rib and we giving them hot dogs.

You can find fish pretty much anywhere you want to fish on the entire lake right now.  This is a good thing, it’s definitely keeping everyone spread out.

Fish can also still be caught relatively shallow yet.  Especially when the wind blows.  Some of our bigger walleyes have been caught in under 10 foot of water.  I’m still mostly just pulling slow death with a half crawler and Lindy’s with the same.

I anticipate the bite to remain solid for a couple months yet.  Still seeing walleyes in under 10 foot of water is the telltale sign of the bite to come.

If you are looking to fish I don have some August availability yet.  Spots are filling so get ahold of me to fish Sakakawea.  Before I know it I’ll be back down on the river near Bismarck chasing the fall bite! Until that time we will continue to enjoy this tremendous fishing up here on Sakakawea!
