Missouri River and Devils Lake Fishing Report-May 11th, 2025

Sorry I’m getting this one out a little later.  I was over on Devils Lake this weekend fishing the Aim Walleye event.  This report will talk a little about the river here near Bismarck and also a little Devils Lake.

I’ll start with Devils Lake.  Things are just starting to get going up there.  Water temps were still a little cool and water clarity is pretty clear.  The fish (walleyes) should really start to fire as water continues to warm up.

We concentrated on wind blown shorelines casting both shallow diving cranks and jigs with plastics.  We had a decent day finishing in 10th place with 5 walleyes weighing just a little over 20 pounds.  If you like pike action, Devils is on fire right now! Crazy actually.

As far as the river here near Bismarck things continue to be really good.  Lots of active males now in the spots where we were catching a lot of bigger females this spring.  There are still some monster fish around.  So every pitch of the jig can result in a 30 plus inch fish.

I have all this week yet here on the river and the weekend I’ll be back up on Devils Lake for 3 days.  After the weekend, I’ll have one last week out here on the river. Hard to believe I’m already having to travel around for my guide trips.  It’s been one heck of a great spring and I just don’t want it to end.

I don’t have much for openings until August.  If you are looking to fish Devils Lake or Sakakawea I’ll have plenty of dates for you in August, but not much from now until then.

What an interesting week on Lake Sakakawea.  Lots of things happening all at the same time. In my line of work it definitely keeps me on my toes.  The fish have decided to go deep!  Or have they? I'll get to this in a minute.  Of course if you...
