Our fall so far has been everything but nice. Wind…wind….and more wind has been on the menu and quite honestly I’m effing sick and tired of it. Lol I guess that’s what guy gets for not having a ton of windy days this past summer while guiding. Anyway, we burned a little extra gas today. I wa on the way up to Deepwater Bay and the wind was howling “weird” and rain was coming down. So my client and I decided to take a detour back towards Pick Cuty to hop below the Garrison Dam instead. I’m happy we did! One the fish of all kinds were on the chow and the wind below the Dam was not all that horrible. Managed to put together a fairly solid day on the water bending the rods with some type of fish every drift, I noticed today smelt of all sizes coming through. A few weeks ago I saw nothing but small young ofbthr year smelt and now we are seeing all sizes. It’s a feeding bonanza with fish abs birds and the old saying $hit happens seems to be common place in there. 3 way rigs drifted or pulled downstream is the ticket to catching a lot of fish and any color that resembles those t bone steaks floating down stream seem to work. We kept both walleyes and catfish today. If you’ve never eaten a kitty cat out of the tailrace you don’t know what your missing! They are really good out of that fresh cold water while eating those smelt. I’m on the river locally near the city limits of Bismarck tomorrow so I will have an updated report for you locallly probably later tomorrow. Also please pass it along that I will be offering Dark House spearing this coming winter! Along with angling but a major focus on this unique way to harvest a Northern Pike!
