This fishing report will be more of a recap of my week spent over in Wisconsin fishing the Aim National Championship. I will add a little local North Dakota report in here also.
For starters, the Aim Nationals was a pretty loaded up field of anglers competing for chance to win a brand new Warrior boat powered by a Yamaha. When I say loaded up field I mean it!
It’s no secret the game of tournament fishing has come down to the fact you need to be absolutely dialed into live sonar. Watching some of these guys cover water and work fish with precision, was absolutely remarkable!
The body of water we fished was called Castle Rock Lake. It’s a dam fed lake with an old river channel and lots of timber and old stumps. If you have used live sonar on Sakakawea or any lake really here in ND, throw everything you thought you knew out the window.
That’s where I realized being a full time fishing guide didn’t do myself or my partner much good in this situation. In order to compete with these guys, you have to spend countless hours honing your skills. The guys that did well certainly have done that! I tip my hat.
As far as the fishing goes back here in ND. Devils Lake and Lake Sakakawea are both just getting going. Our spring temps have definitely been on the colder side up until recently. Since the warmer days both lakes are firing up!
The Missouri River locally is still producing lots of fish! If you are wanting to get your kiddos out fishing now is the time. I have some scattered open dates for Devils Lake and some open August dates for Sakakawea if you want a hassle free day or two of fishing. Get ahold of me!
