It’s been a roller coaster of a ride up here on Devils Lake. Between the wind, temperature changes and now throw in a massive big hatch. The bite has been really grindy.
We were catching plenty of fish. Just not always the ones you want. I’d say the ratio of northern pike to walleyes is 10 to 1 right now. When you do get a walleye to bite however, the quality is unreal!
We have seen plenty of fish on our electronics and plenty of followers while casting. I feel this week with the temperatures finally feeling more like summer and not late fall, the fish are gonna pop!
Bobbers with leeches, shallow running cranks and jugs with some sort of paddle tail plastic have all produced fish so far. I’d actually give the nod to the jigs and plastics for catching the most walleyes.
The size of the walleyes has been really impressive so far! I would expect the smaller eater sized fish to get going here this week hopefully.
I’m gonna be off Devils Lake here this week. Jason Feldner and I are headed to Wisconsin for the Aim National Walleye Championship we qualified for. I will however report next week on what’s happening here on Devils and maybe a little recap of the tournament.
The walleyes are still plentiful on the Missouri River near Bismarck as well, and it sounds like Lake Sakakawea is just getting started also. Lots of fishing ahead of all of us!
Enjoy the holiday weekend and I do have a couple openings here on Devils Lake next week if you are interested. Get ahold of me!
