We are certainly closing in on ice fishing and rumors have it even a few people have ventured out. For me, I’m not quite that fired up to walk out on a couple inches of ice. I will however keep everyone informed on ice conditions as I find them or others report to me.
My first ice fishing guide trips as of now are starting mid December. Of course this can change to earlier or later depending on weather. Last year I had to move a few Darkhouse spearing trips back. I don’t anticipate this happening this season judging how our fall weather has been. Most of the small bodies of water across the state are locked up with ice. Some bays on Devils Lake and also on Lake Audubon are also frozen up. I think with the snow we received in October cooled our water temps down drastically. Kinda giving the ice making a jump start.
I will be mostly reporting from Devils Lake this winter since I’ll be guiding full time for Percheyes Guide Service out of Minnewaukan, ND. I will also have Darkhouse spearing available on Sakakawea and Devils Lake, and if things line, up I’ll dabble some on a few of the smaller lakes in Central ND, but most of my efforts this winter will be up on a Devils Lake both spearing and angling.
I’m still holding out some hope we will get a brief warm up in November to try and take advantage of the walleyes moving up on the Missouri River. The waters high, but the fish are here and right in the city limits of Bismarck-Mandan.
I will be updating these reports frequently as ice conditions continue to progress. I’ll also give you up to date fishing reports throughout the winter again just like I did the previous year.
