Crazy to think we have both open water and frozen water fishing going on right now here in North Dakota. It’s just one of those years I guess. For me it’s been a fun first couple of weeks on the ice. Especially being able to use our new Dakota Walleye and Panfish Slayers by Ice Fishing Central. I’ll talk more about these rods and other items we are developing as we go.
As far as the ice fishing goes? The ice making has been slow. However, somehow in certain areas of the state like Devils Lake, we are finding decent amounts of ice. When I say decent, I’m saying 8 to 10 inches. At this point with the conditions and the nice weather, we will take it.
The ice fishing however has actually been decent. We definitely are not able to go everywhere we want to yet, but we are finding areas and having some success. Still a lot of trouble areas you have to be careful with. The good news is we don’t have any snow, so recognizing the bad spots isn’t that difficult if you pay attention and do you due diligence.
Both perch and walleyes have been decent. I wouldn’t say off the charts great, but good. Again, some of that might be because we are not able to get everywhere we would like yet. I’m hoping after Christmas we can venture around a bit more.
Sounds like the open water around Bismarck has been really good also. Seeing a few boats near or around my house. Judging from all the Snapchat posts, the bite is still really solid. I’m hoping that this is a good sign for the upcoming spring. Going off past history it will be!
I hope everyone has a great Christmas! Things are going to get really busy for me after the holidays with both guiding and working on all the stuff we are working on with Ice Fishing Central. The actual website should be live very soon and I will let everyone know as soon as it is.
I’m so excited with the release of our first two rods. They are literally flying off the shelves. I think the rest of the products we release as we go will also. Stay tuned!
